Hard work in the committees

Interview with the delegate Noel

Noel is one of the delegates, he is a member of the Subcommittee on Security and Defense. He likes the "huge variety" of the topics the SEDE-Team is talking about. Nevertheless, he has experienced some difficulties: "It's difficult to seperate between the EU and the NATO when it comes to defence, that's challenging sometimes.", says Noel. Right now his group works on outlining problems, they "see in the defence of the EU", in addition to that they are ranking these problems from most to least striking. Despite their hard work at the moment, Noel describes the atmosphere in his group as "nice and friendly".

Interview with the delegate Mieke

The delegate Mieke takes part in the Committee on Development. She is very fascinated about how her group works together to get better knowledge of her groups main topic "Development". "Sometimes it is difficult to speak English all the time, but I think that's normal and we are still able to communicate in a good way", said Mieke. The DEVE committee works on an overview right now, so everyone gets to know their topic and it's importance a little better. "The atmosphere is very very good, we are working great together!", Mieke told us. Additionally, Mieke really appreciates working with our guest students from Romania, Denmark and Switzerland.

"The EYP influenced me to the extent that now I am studying 'European studies' [...]. I kind of feel like I owe the EYP something. I am very gratetful that I have this experience."

Discovering Eutin through a photo challenge

On day 2 the media team organized a photo rallye for a varied program because everybody is working so hard today. The participants had much fun and got to see Eutin a bit more. The winning team with the best and most creative photos is SEDE!

An interview with Mr. Loose, one of the head organizers

Today we interviewed Mr. Loose! He is a teacher at the Carl-Maria-von-Weber- Schule and teaches the subjects English and Economic/Politics. Moreover, he is one of the head organizers from the EYP-project at our school this year.
Is the project being the way you expected it to?
„Mhh, that is a very good question! I think maybe its even going better than we hoped it would go. As far as we can say the students are motivated, everybody is here, everybody seems to be excited. The chairs and presidents are doing a great job as well as the catering team and the press team.“
Did you notice the negative vibes from some of the students of our school before the weekend?
„It came to my attention a couple of times, some students were mostly unhappy to spend the weekend in school, what I can understand. But I have to also stress that a lot of students expressed their happiness for the EYP.“
What was your reason for being part of the organizing team for the 4th time now already?
„I have seen how excited the students were and I personally met students who decided to go to Denmark to study, others told me in the years after, that they had a great time at the EYP. It’s about politics, debates, living democracy and meeting other people. That are a lot things I care for.“
What was challenging about planning the EYP?
„Mostly covid, because you need a couple of months before the actual starting day of the EYP to write invitations to the countries joining us and this takes up a lot of time. We had a different date planned but we couldn’t keep the timeline. So now we have moved to March. It is also quite a lot to plan: finding chairpersons, presidents and so on. This was very challenging."
What has been the most stressful until now?
„Most stressful has been to communicate and organize everything behind the scenes, regarding the chairs and setting up the welcome booklet, trying to find a venue for the General Assembly. It wasn’t too stressful but very time consuming“
What has been the best situation so far?
„I would say the best situation so far has been the entire day of Friday, which might sound a bit too excited, but I was relieved to see people were enjoying themselves and breaking the ice at the beginning in the Aula. So we already saw that it’s going to be a good weekend, that was great. It also were exciting to see that most of the students had a good time at the dance battle“
What are you expecting from the debates tomorrow?
„I dont know what to expect yet. I am certain, that most of the students will be more than capable of presenting the ideas, also maybe defending the ideas than they believe. I am interested in seeing how the „Ostholstein Saal“ will be received, because this is the first year we have the opportunity to leave the school for the General Assembly. This will be very exciting! I hope that we see students that are willing to debate and fight for their own opinion“

The committees are preparing for tomorrow

The committees are working on their speeches today. First, they had to deal with their problems and collect suggestions for solutions in the group. However, this is not easy, after all, every student has a different opinion and position. A discussion usually brings up new aspects that lead to another discussion. In addition, we sometimes have four different countries in one committee, so opinions are of course different again.
Nevertheless, each committee will quickly agree and can deal with the next problem-point. The speech is then written from these results. Right now it is quite difficult to get information about the work of the committees because it's all top-secret until tomorrow.
